So, it's working, but not what I expected. That is the diskpart GUI that you see during installation. That would be a disaster! If I wind up having to reformat and reinstall windows on the computer where I'm getting the "error loading operating system" it wouldn't be the end of the world. what I could do is connect the inactive drive in my main computer, use diskpart from a command prompt there, and make it active, as long as that doesn't de-activate the C: drive in my main computer. It appears the diskpart function from the repair console is very limited, but. ![]() ![]() I thought perhaps the prompt was off the screen, so I tried typing in select disk 0 and when it got to the letter "D" I get the message "You asked Setup to delete the partition" So, I used diskpart and I do not get to a prompt, I can ESC=Cancel or D=Delete Partition (see attached) It won't allow me to use diskpart.exe, (none of the commands need the file extension I think) I just booted to the disk made with the files you provided, and no difference. Many thanks for this, I've made the new recovery CD, (the one I have been using is a Dell Reinstallation CD.)
